tuesday quotes

Summertime lovin'. Since I am in love with the summer, which I don't know if I've mentioned enough, this Tuesday is going to be dedicated to whimsical summer quotes.

::HHI, SC::

"Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability." Sam Keen

"And so with the sunshine and the great burst of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow, in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer." - F. Scott Fitzgerald

"Summer afternoon-summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language." Henry James

There's nothing like a good summer in the south.
So I say that it's okay to get caught up with friends and forget your responsibilities on a cool summer night.

sushi dress

Taylor and I went to a new restaurant here named Bamboo on 2nd for sushi the other night.
I wore this light dress with my trusty slides. It was a simple and comfortable look.

I love the blue embroidered neckline of this classic summer dress.

Watching: I am re-watching Sex and the City series. I am in love with Carrie and Charlotte's styles. Although they are both completely different, I think my style is a little mix of both.

Reading: I just started Denton Little's Deathdate. I am only on Chapter 3, but so far so good!

Planning: We have two big trips coming up. One is in two weeks and another is in November, (Our anniversary) so there is a lot of saving and planning going on!

Doing: Taylor and I both just bought Fitbits. We have a bet going that whoever has the least amount of steps by the end of the day has to do this dishes. So far I am 0-1! I am determined to get him to do the dishes!

Loving: The summer showers, walks in the cool evenings, and taking Baker swimming.

Have a great weekend!

tuesday quotes

I am going through and re-watching the Sex and the City series for a 3rd time now.
I bought a pair of Sarah Jessica Parker shoes this weekend.
In light of my recent activity this edition of Tuesday quotes will be themed from Sex and the City.

Maybe some women aren't meant to be tamed. Maybe they just need to run free until they find someone just as wild to run with them.

brunch weekend

This weekend was wonderful. I painted my bathroom, relaxed, and brunched on Sunday.

We brunched at Over Easy, a local breakfast spot here in Birmingham and it was heavenly. Bacon for days.

I wore a lazy t-shirt and some polka dot shorts, I had to be comfortable. My tee is pretty cool though, it has a bearded lady on it from a local brewery here in Birmingham called Good People. Bearded lady is the name of one of their beers, get it?

oh and I also bought these beauties today too

side note: my photographer is my husband. he is amazing.

summer then and now

This summer is hot. Today the heat 'feels like' is 102 degrees! Oh, and guess what else... our air conditioner went kaput.

::will never grow tired of hearing these stories::

So after calling our landlord and letting her know it needed to be fixed. I loaded Baker up and we went to my grandmothers house where there was a small family get together going on already.
That's the thing about my grandma and paw-paws house, there is almost always two people or more over there visiting. It's like the glue that holds our family together.

And of course, right on cue, the 'when I was your age' talk began. I absolutely love hearing stories from when my mom was young and when my grandmother was young. They are the best stories anyone can tell.

I sat on the cool cement porch in my grandmothers breezeway and listened to stories of the days before air conditioning. It made for a perfect impromptu visit.

::front porch sitting::

::Baker beating the heat with the occasional trip to the creek by grandmas house::

I could right a whole post on what this swing has seen and the memories that have been made on it. While I'm feeling nostalgic, I'll just say that I have many fond memories of this particular swing, and hold dear to what it represents.

tuesday quotes

a small list of my favorite quotes that are empowering and meaningful to me...

"Money looks better in your bank, not on your feet." - Sophia Amoruso, #GIRLBOSS

"Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." Luke 12:15

"Do not regret growing older, for it is a privilege denied to many." -unknown

hope everyone has a great day!

bedroom revamp

This weekend was project weekend! We decided to revamp our bedroom a little and paint an accent wall. Sometimes the problem with renting is that there is little room to make your space your own. Thankfully, my landlady is pretty cool and doesn't care if i go HAM on our walls.

I am pretty much in love with this color, it is called 'Morning Fog', can you get a more peaceful name than that? It is a mix between a grey and blue. Oh how I am in love with it.

::before::
(I had already started moving things when I realized I needed to be documenting this)

::after::

I am so in love with the color and the new arrangement of the furniture.
In the very near future I am going to be searching for some new sheets. I am thinking these or these
Either way I am super excited to make my bed even more comfortable than it already is.

pub date night

Last night we went out to one of our local pubs J. Clyde to drink beer, eat burgers and chicken fingers, and watch soccer. It was a nice date night with friends.

a dog and a creek

In effort to get out and get moving we took Baker swimming at our local State Park.

This dog is level 10 pumped up to go swimming any day and every day.
It was a good mile hike downhill to get to the small waterfall/swimming hole that we had all to ourselves and a good mile hike UP hill back to our car, so everyone go their workout in. It was a perfect little spot for us to dip our toes in and Baker to swim and do as she pleases.

 Have you seen a happier face?

Action shot! The water was perfectly deep enough for her to have to swim to get the ball.

My heart was singing, this is what I live for in the summer.

summer recipe

In an earlier post titled Currently, I wrote about craving tomato and cucumber salad. I wanted to recreate one of my favorite side dishes from one of my favorite restaurants.

to make this recipe you'll need:
1 or 2 large cucumbers
a batch of cherry tomatoes
half of a red onion sliced
fresh basil leaves
1/2 cup of feta cheese crumbles
red wine vinegar
olive oil
salt & pepper
garlic power (optional)

1. start by peeling and dicing the cucumber into quarters (see picture below) and halving the cherry tomatoes. Mix tomatoes, cucumber, and onion together
3. Add 3 tablespoons of red wine vinegar and 3 tablespoons of olive oil (note: i usually eyeball this step, i like to have a little extra of each.)
4. Add in feta and basil (I use mini basil leaves that I've grown in my garden, you may need to chop your leaves so they are bite sized)
5. Season with salt and pepper to taste, add garlic powder to taste if you want!
6. enjoy this delicious summer recipe!
::step 1::

::step 3::

::step 5::

This can be enjoyed at anytime of the day, on toast for breakfast or at dinner as a side item!

blue apron

In the evenings I like to cook dinner. If I'm feeling really adventurous I like to cook really complicated meals that require a lot of preparing and attention. Taylor and I have been on the Blue Apron kick. They send you all the ingredients for three meals a week.  The ingredients are farm fresh and different. I like using it every now and then because it's easy (delivered right to your door), and it makes us try new food that we may have never thought about before.

There is a lot of chopping involved with using Blue Apron, but to me the chopping is one of the best parts. I find it kind of therapeutic after a long day; all the smells of fresh ingredients calm my senses.

This was an enchilada from last night, it was made with tomatillos. I had never cooked with tomatillos before and was not disappointed!  This meatless enchilada was delicious!

Reading: I am almost finished with The Martian. It has turned out to be one of my favorites of 2015, and I cannot wait for the movie to come out!

Watching: Since all my tv shows are off for the summer I find myself watching Pride and Prejudice and You've Got Mail over and over again. I seriously cannot get enough of those amazing movies.

Craving: I have been on a tomato and cucumber salad kick all summer. I love the freshness of the salad and you can eat it anytime of the day and it is delicious.

Dreaming: Our one year anniversary is coming up in November and we are trying to figure out where to go that isn't going to break our bank but still be an exciting adventure!

Loving: I am loving this summer. It has been filled with evening walks watching fireflies, spending hot days at the lake, eating fresh vegetables and fruit, and wearing easy summer clothes.

Baker enjoys the lake too!
Have a great and safe weekend!

my faith

Every morning I find time to sit down with my coffee and make time for the Lord.
Right now I am just starting a Women in the Word series through She Reads Truth. I found these guys about a year ago and have found that they are great for a girls bible study. My faith is very important to me and growing in that faith is even more important.

 This series comes with a very large book full of bible study to go through each day. You can also use their website absolutely free and follow through. I am going through it on my own pace since life happens and I am not able to get to it every single day.

Also, if you are able to order the book, it comes with 8 scripture memorization cards. I have actually fell in love with these, the material is super soft and they are small enough to fit in your pocket. I took one to work and pulled it out whenever I needed a reminder of God's love. They are really useful for memorization, and you can give them away when you are finished.

Last but not least, it comes with this beautiful 8x10 canvas of scripture. What a great reminder of how important we are to the Lord. I can't wait to frame this and put it right beside our front door as a reminder every time we go out into the world that God made me unique and beautiful in his eyes. Apart from him I have nothing.

* I have no participation with She Reads Truth, all my opinions are my own.
